Platform Qualification Screening Criteria

Most late-life and idle shelf platforms are candidates. Here's what we screen for.

Screening criteria

Three qualifying dimensions — location, topside readiness, and access & safety.

Location & Water Depth
Late-Life · Idle · Near Shore
  • Late-life producing or idle platforms all considered
  • Near shore, 5–20nm ideal
  • 30–300 ft water depth preferred, any depth considered
  • Gas available via pipeline for on-platform generation, preferred
  • Usable deck area for power generation equipment (3 off 50′x11′)
  • No interference with any remaining production or operations
Topside & Subsea Readiness
Umbilical · Fiber · Mooring
  • Deck space for the power generators
  • Capacity to run a power umbilical to the barge
  • Route for a fiber line connecting to shore
  • Suitable seabed and structure to moor a barge
  • SDC to perform all Engineering, Procurement, Installation & Commissioning (EPIC) work
Access & Safety
Crane · Helideck · Manning
  • Platform crane available to support installation
  • Helideck and boat landing for transfers
  • Platform is safe to man under normal protocols
  • Wells requiring P&A can be performed by SDC
  • SDC to support permitting, operator to continue standard maintenance & monitoring

Royalty income + decom deferral

Hosting a data center turns a retiring asset into new income and pushes your decommissioning obligation out a decade or more.

The hyperscaler or colocator leasing the data center pays a small, fixed royalty for use of your platform and topside space — new, high-margin revenue on an asset that may otherwise sit idle.

Hosting the data center defers your decommissioning timeline by a decade or more, while royalty income and SDC's well P&A support convert a future liability into present-day cash flow.
